About This Tool
Purpose
The Cardano NCL Tracker provides a clear, real-time visualization of the Cardano treasury's Net Change Limit (NCL). It automatically monitors all enacted treasury withdrawals within the current NCL period (Epochs 532-604) and presents the data in an easy-to-understand format, helping to promote transparency in on-chain governance.
About the NCL
The Net Change Limit (NCL) is a critical safeguard for the Cardano treasury, established through on-chain governance. It defines the maximum total amount of Ada that can be withdrawn over a set budgetary period. This mechanism ensures the long-term sustainability of the treasury by preventing rapid depletion and encouraging disciplined financial planning. The NCL is voted on by the community of DReps (Delegated Representatives), making it a cornerstone of Cardano's decentralized governance model.
How It Works
This tool is a single, self-contained web page that performs a multi-step data gathering process when you load it:
- Step 1: Fetch Proposals: It begins by querying the Koios API to get a complete list of all governance proposals on the Cardano blockchain.
- Step 2: Filter Data: The tool filters this list to isolate only the successful treasury withdrawals that have been ratified within the specified epoch range.
- Step 3: Identify Multi-withdrawal Actions: The tool inspects the list to find governance actions (`proposal_id`) that are associated with more than one withdrawal transaction, allowing them to be visually marked.
- Step 4: Retrieve Metadata: For each unique proposal, it fetches the title from its metadata file on the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS).
- Step 5: Calculate, Sort & Display: Finally, it calculates the NCL summary and renders the list of individual withdrawal transactions. The list is initially sorted by the newest ratification epoch. The user can re-sort the list by Epoch, Amount, or Name in either ascending or descending order using the controls at the top of the list. Each entry is marked if it's part of a multi-withdrawal action, and the GovAction ID, TxID, and ratification epoch are shown. The title links to the GovAction page, and the TxID links to its specific transaction on Cardanoscan.
